Meet the host
Baasit Siddiqui
TV personality, entrepreneur in all things education, Director of Siddiqui Education and Let's Thrive.
Baasit’s journey on the BAFTA and NTA award-winning ‘Gogglebox’ has allowed him to merge his teaching expertise with his entertainment background to effectively educate, motivate and foster the development of children across the UK. Much of Baasit’s work forwards his mission of supporting upward mobility in young people. Since 2018, Baasit has also worked closely with the TES Institute, supporting teachers in gaining their QTS qualification.
As an educator, teacher trainer and business owner, Baasit has developed his skill set and fostered collaborative relationships over shared commitments to supporting disadvantaged students. These collaborations support Baasit in ensuring that his endeavours have a positive, far-reaching impact on the children and young people he supports.
Rob Eastaway
Director of Maths Inspiration, author, speaker and frequent BBC Radio 4 guest.
Rob has 30+ years of experience in teaching and providing lectures, workshops, books, articles and radio broadcasts on the topics of maths. Since 2004, he has been the Director of Maths Inspiration - a national programme of theatre-based shows inspiring teenagers to pursue mathematical subjects to a higher level!
He has given numerous keynote talks at education conferences, is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4's More or Less, a former editor of the weekly mathematical puzzle in New Scientist magazine, and he is the author/co-author of books including the bestselling ‘Maths for Mums and Dads' and most recently 'Much Ado About Numbers'.
Session - Mathematical magic and mystery – engaging children with the wow factor
For most people, the expression 'creative maths' sounds like a contradiction in terms. But real maths *is* creative - it's about discovery, serendipity and surprise. In this talk, Rob gives some of his favourite examples of games, puzzles and tricks that can be used to bring excitement to lessons for children of all ages and aptitudes.
Jonny Bennett
Director of Business Development and Maths Development Consultant at Daisy Education
Jonny joined Daisy Education eight years ago, using knowledge from his previous teaching roles and experience in the EdTech industry to effectively understand and support schools’ reading needs with our online reading development programme, DreamBox Reading Plus.
Now, with Reading Plus having supported over 1,600 schools for 10+ years and the introduction of DreamBox Maths to the UK, Jonny uses his expertise to ensure schools have an equally unique, dynamic and supportive programme to impact their maths curriculum.

Peter Mattock
National Education Lead - Secondary Mathematics at Twinkl Educational Publishing
Now the National Lead for Secondary Maths for Twinkl Educational Publishing, Peter Mattock taught mathematics in secondary schools from 2006 and led maths departments from the beginning of 2011 until being promoted to a whole school leadership position in 2021.
Peter has been accredited as an NCETM Secondary Mathematics Professional Development Lead and a Mathematics Specialist Leader in Education. Peter was also one of the first secondary maths teachers to take part in the NCETM Secondary Mastery Specialist programme and now leads the Maths subject training for the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT trainees alongside his Twinkl role.

Session - Achieving curriculum coherence
One of the criticisms of mathematics teaching and learning is that it is memorising lots of disconnected tricks and strategies. In this session Pete will explore the important aspects of coherence in curriculum planning, and how to lead a team in implementing them.
Charity Lisko and Sophie Withey
Vice President of International Curriculum and Product at Discovery Education and Curriculum and Instruction Manager at Discovery Education
Charity is a STEM educator with over 20 years of experience in teaching, digital curriculum design, and leadership development. Her career has spanned from classroom teaching, to coaching and supporting principals in school design, to creating and implementing education initiatives at school, district, and national levels. Charity has advocated for increasing access and inclusion in STEM education efforts so that students around the world can build on their natural instincts to think and learn as mathematicians, scientists and engineers. Charity holds a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University.
Sophie is a Curriculum and Instruction Manager at Discovery Education, where she leads the development of digital maths content for the DoodleLearning products. With over a decade of experience teaching across Years 1 to 6 in Welsh primary classrooms, she draws on her pedagogical expertise to support children’s independence and confidence in maths. Sophie works in collaboration with teachers and curriculum teams to ensure content builds mathematical understanding and supports effective maths teaching. She is passionate about making maths education accessible, engaging and relevant to all.
Session - How to Extend Thinking, Talking, and Trying in Maths
A common reaction in maths is to focus on the final outcome, often asking something along the lines of “Did I get the right answer?” This session explores practical strategies for designing maths experiences and creating moments that encourage students to think, talk and try as they learn.
Bobby Seagull
Maths Teacher, Broadcaster & Author
Bobby Seagull is a teacher, broadcaster, and writer. After a career as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers, Bobby switched trajectories and became a teacher, a passion that started with a scholarship to Eton College. He writes regularly for the Financial Times and has published two books: Monkman and Seagull Quiz Book and The Life-Changing Magic of Numbers.
In 2016-17, Bobby captained the Emmanuel College team on University Challenge where he met his future broadcasting partner Eric Monkman as a member of the rival Wolfson College team. Bobby went on to co-host Monkman and Seagull’s Genius Guides for BBC Two in 2018 and Monkman and Seagull’s Genius Adventures in 2020.
Bobby has featured in E4's The Real Dirty Dancing, and in popular gameshows such as Richard Osman's House of Games, Pointless Celebrities, and in Countdown's Dictionary Corner. In 2023, Bobby was a contestant in Channel 4's Hunted for Stand Up To Cancer. He also appeared in BBC Two's Pilgrimage.
Beyond his television work, Bobby is an accomplished keynote speaker, and has hosted events for Pearson Education, Manchester City Football Academy, and The British Library. He has partnered with brands such as Argos, IBM and IKEA and has delivered keynotes speeches for the likes of TEDx, the British Chambers of Commerce, National Numeracy, and numerous schools across the UK.

Why do so many students, and even adults, feel anxious about maths? This session explores what maths anxiety really is, how it impacts learning, and what we can do to create supportive, confidence-building environments. Discover practical ways to bring maths to life through real-world connections, helping learners see maths not as something to fear, but as something meaningful, creative and enjoyable.
