Up for the challenge? Schools must register to take part.The new school year is the perfect time to re-focus students on reading - and this challenge is designed to give them a strong start.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday, 5th November 2025
The Challenge
Generate back-to-school excitement for your students by encouraging them to use Reading Plus this half term.
Between now and Sunday 2nd November, get students to complete as many Reading Plus lessons as possible.
At the end of the challenge, the five schools with the highest reading lessons (on average) will win prizes.

Why take part?
Taking part in the Reading Plus Start-up Challenge will:
- Promote reading enjoyment among students.
- Encourage reading for pleasure.
- Create a community of learners passionate about developing their reading skills and confidence.
We’ve also created a parent and carer letter to explain the challenge at home and encourage reading support beyond the classroom.
Prizes
The competition closes at midnight, Sunday 2nd November, and winners will be announced on Wednesday 5th November 2025.
The top 5 schools with the most reading lessons (on average) will win - with one primary school and one secondary school each eligible for the top prize.
Prizes are awarded as follows:
- 1st place (one primary school and one secondary school): £150 Amazon voucher
- 2nd place (overall): £100 Amazon voucher
- 3rd place (overall): £50 Amazon voucher
- 4th place (overall): £25 Amazon voucher

How is your school performing?
Using Reading Plus data, we will share a weekly leaderboard to help you track your school’s ranking throughout the challenge. This leaderboard will help you:
- See where you stand nationally.
- Share progress with staff and students.
- Set clear, short-term reading targets for progress.
