Fedora's Reading Plus Champion tasks

We are thrilled to share what Fedora has achieved as Reading Plus Champions this academic year!

Within her role, Fedora has the opportunity to complete a series of exciting reading activities throughout the year, including:

  • Writing a blog exploring love for reading and how Reading Plus has made an impact.
  • Expanding their reading further and reviewing books outside of Reading Plus.
  • Creating a vlog detailing all their favourite things about reading.
  • Publishing their very own piece of creative writing on our website.

Opportunities may also arise to collaborate with us on interviews with children’s/YA authors.

My reading journey blog

How do you feel about becoming a Reading Plus Champion?

I am excited. It feels momentous to me!

What do you enjoy most about reading?

I like the times when I am in the book and feeling my own emotions in the story.

Can you tell us about your favourite author/book?

My favourite author is L.D. Lapinski. She wrote the series 'Strange Worlds Travel Agency'. I like how one of the main characters has a lot of similarities with me and my life story.

Out of all the books you have ever read, who is your favourite character?

My favourite character is Felicity (Flick) Hudson because even though she is the main character, she doesn't always take the spotlight all the time, which I love.

What are your favourite things about Reading Plus?

It helps me grow outside of my comfort zone and helps me to learn.

Have you learned any interesting facts with Reading Plus?

I learned about Alcatraz, the prison island.

Do you feel your reading skills have improved with Reading Plus?

My speed and my vocabulary have definitely improved.

Do you have any advice for other students on their Reading Plus journey?

Do not give up, like me on level G. I nearly gave up because it got harder and harder but now I am a Reading Plus Champion. In summary, never give up because although it will get harder, with determination and handwork you will surely get there.

Book review of 'Kicked Out' by A.M. Dassu

Star rating: "I would rate this book 4.9/5.0 because it is a really beautiful and awesome book but there is always room for change and improvement."

What was the book about?

This book is about a boy named Ali with a football penalty shot that changes his life…

What was your favourite thing about the book, and your favourite character?

My favourite thing about the book was when he reunited with his dad. My favourite character was Mark because even though he was facing challenges with his mum’s new boyfriend, he put up with it and kept going.

Did you learn any new facts in the book?

I learned the word 'Supreme' through this book.
