Ayva's Reading Plus Champion tasks

We are thrilled to share what Ayva achieves as a Reading Plus Champion this academic year!

Within her role, Ayva has the opportunity to complete a series of exciting reading activities throughout the year, including:

  • Writing a blog exploring love for reading and how Reading Plus has made an impact.
  • Expanding their reading further and reviewing books outside of Reading Plus.
  • Creating a vlog detailing all their favourite things about reading.
  • Publishing their very own piece of creative writing on our website.

Opportunities may also arise to collaborate with us on interviews with children’s/YA authors.

I feel really proud of myself for becoming a Reading Plus Champion because I love reading and have enjoyed being a librarian at school and talking about books with other children and my friends.

My reading journey blog

What do you enjoy most about reading?

What I enjoy most about reading is how it uses your imagination, and how when I pick up a book, it's like I have a bubble and it takes me to the outside world, allowing me to go wherever I want on adventures.

Can you tell us about your favourite author/book?

My favourite author at the moment is Katie Kirby, author of Lottie Brooks books, because I love the ups and downs and she seems to have a very similar life to mine, she is adventurous, and full of drama. I know they are good books because I don't have to be told to read, I just pick them up, and continue where I left.

My favourite book is Lottie Brooks's Essential Life, which is one of my favourite books that I own. It is so funny and teaches so many ways to handle life. If you want a good book to read, Lottie Brooks is the one for you if you like friendship and laugh-out-loud moments.

What are your favourite things about Reading Plus?

My favourite thing about Reading Plus is that when you finish a book, the programme gives you questions to test you on what you have just read, and I think that's really good because it shows that you have read the text or extract and taken it in and not just skimmed through it, as this tests your memory.

Do you feel your reading skills have improved with Reading Plus?

Reading Plus has made me learn new words and facts, from animals and places, to pioneers and famous events. These are great for helping with normal school work. It has also helped me learn to read at a steady pace, which helps in the classroom when I have to read aloud to my class.

Do you have any advice for other students on their Reading Plus journey?

I would recommend "Always try your best and don't give up and when it seems hard, don't think you can't do it because you can!"

Book review of 'Kicked Out' by A.M Dassu

Hi! My name is Ayva. The book I am reviewing is called 'Kicked Out'.

The author is A.M Dassu and it is aimed at children aged 11 and above.

The genre is realistic fiction and sports fiction.

My favourite character is Aadam because he is light-hearted and always joking around and cares for people when they need it and even though he got rejected from his asylum application he is a loyal friend to the younger boys.

The best part is when Ali tries to fit a whole slice of pizza in his mouth but then Mark's angry step-dad marches down towards him and catches him and creates a moment of tension. This is the best bit for me because it shows no matter what you do, an adult will always catch you.
