Reading Plus' impact
What results can you expect?Accelerated reading gains
With Reading Plus, students’ progress is continuously and dynamically monitored using summative and formative assessments.
Reading content levels are adjusted accordingly, ensuring they progress at their just-right levels and are matched with age-appropriate, high-quality texts.

Reading for meaning
Students develop their comprehension skills as they are exposed to word reading skills (decoding, full word recognition, fluency) and language comprehension (inferencing, comprehension monitoring, text structure, and vocabulary).
After reading a text selection, students practice their understanding by answering ten comprehension questions. These questions are calibrated to a student’s level of reading proficiency to strengthen comprehension skills, forming a basis for critical thinking.

Silent reading fluency gains
The research-based, patented Guided Window develops students’ fluency and stamina. This unique feature guides the reader’s eyes across a page of text at a bespoke speed, utilising a moving box.
The Guided Window moves at the speed the student is currently reading and adapts based on their performance with comprehension questions. This patented technology moves students toward efficient, independent reading at a year-appropriate rate.

Improved vocabulary knowledge
With over 2,400 words, the Reading Plus vocabulary feature develops students’ language capabilities, which teaches a research-based compilation of highly valuable, cross-curriculum, general academic vocabulary.

Enhanced cross-curriculum knowledge
Reading Plus offers a student-centred experience. Students can self-select fiction, non-fiction, and informational texts from eight high-interest categories that support the acquisition of knowledge in curriculum areas of STEM, social science, history, and literature.

Emerging
Students below year-level expectations
Students who need fluency, stamina, and comprehension support will benefit from reading efficiency and vocabulary tasks on Reading Plus to build their knowledge. Once a student has improved their vocabulary, reading will be less of a challenge, and they then can focus on improving their comprehension. Adaptive technology and support scaffolds ensure students are:
- Working at their just-right levels.
- Accessing age-appropriate and ability-level texts.
- Motivated and engaged with their learning.
- Closing the gap on their peers.
"Not only are we now seeing an impact on fluency and overall comprehension, but we can also see how this has enhanced our reading-for-pleasure culture."
Reading Plus efficacy study
Daisy Education formerly known as Reading Solutions UK collaborated with Derby Research School and Spencer Academies Trust to determine the efficacy of Reading Plus and its impact on disadvantaged pupils.
The main findings showed:
- Pupils who used Reading Plus for reading development achieved more significant progress than non-users, on average.
- Disadvantaged pupils made 97% more progress than disadvantaged pupils in the control schools.
